INDEPENDENT PROJECT: IONIC, OSMOTIC, AND VOLUME REGULATION IN WORMS IN SEAWATER CONCENTRATIONS

Fall 2017

This project stemmed from an interest my lab partner and I had in a previous experiment we had done and an interesting finding in a paper we had read. The paper reported plasticity in the ability of worms to regulate their body volume in various concentrations of seawater. We were curious if we could observe this effect in a different species of worm after only 3 days of exposure to the seawater dilutions. We had to design our own experiment and carry it out independently and then write a report on our findings.

It was difficult for me to write this paper as I spend a lot of time planning and drafting my writing and my lab partner does not, so we had to meet in the middle and compromise when it came to some aspects of writing this paper. I am very proud of the final product we managed to pull off.
